What does it mean to effectively work with clients from a variety of diverse backgrounds?

I'm answering the above question on a job application and I'm stuck on the "effectively" part. I was initially planning to explain all of my experience working with different cultures and people of different socioeconomic statuses, but I'm starting to think that's not exactly what they're looking for and I'm getting hung-up on "effectively."
