Do mental deficiencies enhance one's ability to be a Christian?

Given the indication by Jesus that a child-like mind is better to have for matters of faith, would a mental deficiency be a benefit for a person who wished to be a good Christian? Are there any studies available that show the demographics of religious beliefs among the special education recipients to help illustrate whether there is truth to this idea?
