Since Hispanics in America are so diverse, what does the term Hispanic vote really mean?

I am Cuban-American. I hear the term Hispanic vote mentioned a great deal by politicians and political pundits, but what I think they fail to acknowledge is how diverse Hispanic groups are in this country. Cubans and Puerto Ricans are not worried about being deported, and most Americans of Latin American descent who are here legally, actually WANT illegal aliens to be deported, and to start at the back of the line like they did. I hear Harry Reid and others like him talk about the need for amnesty of illegal immigrants in order to win the 'Hispanic vote' as if every American Hispanic were in favor of amnesty for illegal immigrants. Talking about the Hispanic vote is like talking about the 'brown-haired' vote. There is so much diversity among Hispanic voters, that there is not just one Hispanic perspective on illegal immigration.
